Coach John is
part of FC Rockville's efforts to assist teams and players who wish to start in
a recreational league but have further aspirations to move into competitive
travel soccer or develop their soccer skills. The Lions 2000 serve as a model
for these efforts in which a volunteer parent guides and coaches a group of
players through its early stages as a recreational team. Then
as interest increases and age eligibility is met, the move to a more
competitive league is made. Along these lines, the Lions 2000 are planning to
move to the Olney Bethesda Soccer League in Fall 2008 under the leadership of a
professional coach as the next step toward developing an elite travel team.
For more information on this process, please see the section entitled "Start a
Team."
As a volunteer coach and asst. coach, John has been involved in
his daughter's teams from pre-Kicks until her transition to an FC Rockville club
team. He continues to support her current team, the Strikers, in various
activities. He has also coached his son's previous team, the MSI Lions, and its
current form, the Lions 2000, who will play in the SAM Soccer recreational
league. He enjoys learning and teaching soccer skills and strategies to his
kids.
At FC Rockville John is involved in the Board, serving as Club Vice-President.
He brings with him his experience serving on the board of the CFA Society of
Washington, DC (a non-profit, 1500+ member organization serving the needs of
local investment professionals). John was also instrumental in the
establishment of the FC Rockville Player Academy, a development program for
youth soccer players.
